advice: reach out.

...loved picking up the latest prompt - on my blackberry while I was waiting for my flight to Chicago on Tuesday afternoon. I will be the first to admit this new blackberry is very good - enabled me to be out of the office for a day and a half without my laptop, which made traveling without checking a bag possible - loved that! And like a few others (including Elise, I think) it took me a while to settle on what advice to highlight. I've certainly received lots of great advice - and (at least according to Katie) have even managed to give some. But what to pick? choice made a bit harder knowing I'd have to figure out a way to portray it in a photo.

But it hit me...walking through O'Hare Wednesday evening, from terminal 3 to terminal 1 so I could meet Kit for dinner before her American Airlines and my United flights left. I hadn't met Kit til Tuesday night at O'Hare. And now I was gladly walking 20 minutes to enjoy another meal with her.

I was so thankful I'd made the effort to "reach out". The journaling says this is "hewitt-speak for sending an email" - but it could mean any sort of contact and often implies that you're contacting someone you don't know (Hewitt is the company we both work for). Making a new friend totally made the trip for me. And now having a friend in our Orlando office will make my upcoming trips back there so much better.

so...very good advice to myself - reach out (and enjoy it!)

Hi, Mary -
Thanks for the nice comment on my blog. To answer your questions: my book is approx. 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches and for the base of my last pages (Op. 08 & 09) I just used plain old cardstock and did a decorative edging with those edging scissors that have been collecting dust since when I first started scrapbooking in 2003. The papers I used are Milestones Journaling Boxes from Creative Memories (blue - Op. 08) and a piece of paper from the Journaler's Notebook from Narratives by Karen Russell (green - Op. 09). For Op. 07 I used paper from the Cocoa Daisy Feb. kit. And . . . sometimes I just paint my own with acrylic paint (Op. 06 and 03). I hope this is what you meant by the base (if not, just let me know and I'll try to answer). Have a great week!
