Tuesdays with Charlie | Four Things.

It seems like ages since Charlie spent a Tuesday with me. and even more than ages since we spent the day here at home. We did start out with a visit to Starbucks - his mama told me he'd been asking for "steamed milk" (seriously... but what else would you expect from a two year old who loves broccoli, cucumber and hummus?!) and it seemed like a fun way to ease into the day.

Once we got back to my house, though, Charlie turned on his own barista skills. Weeks back, Vicki suggested Charlie might like a coffee maker and she was right. He took my order "tall dark roast with a little milk" and proceeded to brew.

...sadly, the coffee was too hot to drink (ever!) "No Marmie, it's too hot!" (thank goodness for that Starbucks earlier.)

So we moved right into game #2. which started as stringing beads (naming colors and shapes and working on fine motor skills) and morphed so quickly I almost missed it into jumping in and out and all around a circle on the ground.

Whew... time for lunch. and then time for stories. There is SNOW in our forecast for the weekend, so I chose one of my favorite books about snow. and red mittens. and Grandmas who know all the right things to do.
Charlie loves this book (I'm pretty sure I did too ... sadly, it's now out of print).

And finally, the fourth thing. Charlie took a great nap. and I made it all the way through the first cable chart on my Rob Roy hat. A few tricky rounds makes for perfect nap-time entertainment!

Today's Tuesday with Charlie was a welcome respite from thinking about 2017 and all the "new" for me. new intentions. a new word (!?!). a new planner. new habit(s). It was nice to simply enjoy the "new" experiences Charlie shares with me every week.

xo, M.

Our preschoolers play coffee shop all the time! And they have a lot of information about what and how to order. They are always paying attention! We actually have that book in our preschool library. Lovely.

Looks like you and Charlie had a great day at home. You are doing such great things in shaping his world, Mary, he's a lucky little boy.

What a fantastic day you had! And, I am profoundly grateful for your rapid response emergency knitter assistance last night! I made it through round 12 and decided it was probably wise to tackle round 13 with a cup of coffee on board (Yes, dark roast with an extra shot if you please!). I love your yarn choice!

What a fun day! And . . . snow??? Better get knitting on that hat. . .
(I finished my Rob Roy last night. It's a nifty design, but the chart is a bit . . . weird???)

My, my, Charlie is a busy boy. He's learning so many skills! I didn't even know there was a coffee bar for kids! Stay warm! It's certainly turned very wintry here!

Seeing Charlie playing conjures of delightful memories of my own boys playing at that age, as does Too Many Mittens! I got that book from the Weekly Reader Book Club at school, and read it to my kids. In case you don't already have it, The Mitten by Jan Brett is another wonderful "snowy" book, and it also includes some wonderful knitting illustrations. Thanks for sharing your fun with Charlie!

I can't believe how tall he is getting ... Your sequence of photos and commentary is very warming on a chilly day - you too have a real connection. That looks like a lovely book; I'd like my grandchildren to have books from a grandma who always knows what to do :).

Aw how cute!! I'm sure as with my own grandkids, you discover or notice something "new" every time you spend some time with Charlie!! It's endlessly fascinating. ;)
