Throwback Thursday | Apartment Hunting.

...five years ago today, Katie and I flew to NYC to find her a place to live; she was starting her first post-college job with NBC/Universal on July 6. I still remember the lump I got in my throat when I saw that Manhattan skyline and thought about my daughter living by herself in that big city.
from the Moving to NYC album I put together in 2009
Fast forward five years and now it's Sara's turn. Today we're flying to Madison, Wisconsin to find her a place to live. She's starting her first post-college job with Epic on July 7. I can't even type the words without getting a lump in my throat. You might remember that Wisconsin is one of only seven states I've never visited so it feels especially weird to think that Sara will call it home in just a few short weeks.

We have a busy week planned - apartment hunting, restaurants, a campus tour (check out these photos - Sara says it's even better in real life!), hopefully a few long walks and even a yarn shop. Stay tuned...and wish us luck!

I've heard Madison is great place to live and it will be a far cry from the climate of Atlanta! Enjoy your time exploring a new city!

Congrats to Sara on this first new adventure in a new place. She's going to need lots of warm, knitted things that will keep you very close to her . Enjoy your trip and good results on your apt. hunting and finding a yarn shop!
Cheers~

Wishing you and Sara a wonderful, productive, successful trip! A year ago I was doing the same thing - helping my oldest son look for a place to live in Fort Collins, CO, 1700 miles away from home. It worked out well after a frenzied, worrisome week, and this year I'm here visiting for vacation. I completely understand and am right there with you with that lump in the throat feeling! Epic looks and sounds like a wonderful place and I hope Sara will be very happy in Madison!

My friend Tom spent a lot of time at Epic this winter getting training for his job here at a hospital. It sounds like an amazing place to work. I'm so excited for Sara but I understand that this is going to be hard for you. As my friend Lois always says, roots are easy, wings are hard.

Hard to believe how fast the last four years have gone by. I have a son who just graduated college and fortunately has a job. He just signed a lease on an apartment in NY City with a high school buddy. Lucky for me, just a half hour train ride from home. Wish Sara all the best from me and I hope her apartment has a great kitchen.

Hi Mary....another thing in common....two of my three kids went to UWM....to say they "loved it" would be an understatement. Great education and great place to visit. Wishing your daughter the very best. Go Badgers.
