Unraveled Wednesday.

Joining in with Kat and friends for a quick update on two of my favorite things - reading and knitting  (neither of which I enjoyed nearly as much as usual these past few weeks).

Things are slowly returning to some sort of normal around here. My sister will be here soon for our first Wednesday knitting since August 2. That seemed a fitting occasion to clean the porch, which took a beating when Irma blew through.

...and provided a beautiful setting to enjoy a few pages of A Good Hard Look. I'm just at the halfway point and it's definitely captured my interest. It takes place in Milledgeville (about 100 miles southeast of here) and features Flannery O'Connor, peacocks and a host of other interesting characters. More to come once I finish!

...which might take a few days. The UPS man just delivered the yarn for Sam's birthday blanket. 1,800+ yards (of worsted weight on size 8 needles) means audiobooks. I'm re-listening to A Gathering of Shadows (I first listened in the spring of 2016 and I remember almost nothing) in preparation for A Conjuring of Light. The re-listen is even better than I remember; I have high hopes for #3 in the series.

It's also been fun catching up with y'all. I still have a few dozen unread posts in my feed reader (it does go quickly when I don't leave comments on every post ... trust you understand!) but it doesn't feel so daunting. Thank you as always for providing me inspiration, humor, and a welcoming place to simply be.

xo - M.

You've got lots of interesting reading and knitting here! I know almost nothing about Flannery O'Connor, but a book with peacocks and "Flannery's observation that 'the truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it'" has certainly piqued my interest! Sam's blanket should keep you busy for a while, with an interesting and distinctive pattern. Glad things are returning to normal with plenty of reading and knitting!

I've enjoyed some of Flannery O'Connor's other books but have not read A Good Hard Look. It's so nice to see you settling back in. The blanket is going to be so cool!

A Good Hard Look sounds like an interesting novel. I have a copy of The Collected Works of Flannery O'Connor and have read most of her stories and some essays. Although I enjoy her writing and find her work compelling, I am troubled by the grotesque in her stories...some of them really give me the creeps!
That blanket is going to be comfy & cozy!

Wow... it's not as though you haven't seen your sister since August 2nd, but still. Wow! It's been a full couple of months, and I'm sure you had a great visit with her!! That blanket is going to be amazing.

Perfect time to start knitting a blanket. Lucky Sam!! "A Good Hard Look" looks really good. Neither of my libraries have it, but I've recommended it.
