Unraveled Wednesday.

Joining in with Kat and friends today to share about what I'm knitting and reading.

Bodie is, at last, showing real signs of progress (funny how that works once I actually spend some time knitting it 😊). Just this afternoon I finished the 4th (of a planned 14!) skeins and paused for a photo session.
Isn't it pretty!

I'm not sure I've mentioned here that the pattern is 20 (!!) pages long; I'm working on page 8 (with charts from page 16) now. Elizabeth's instructions are clear (and accurate) and I couldn't be happier with the details. Like the braid that runs along the shoulders where the front stitches were picked up.

And the very clever three-needle bindoff under the arms where we joined the fronts and back. not to mention how the stitch patterns continued uninterrupted through all of that.

The next cool detail - which takes up the rest of page 8, page 9 and part of page 10 (with charts on page 17) - is the pocket openings. Hope to have those to share next week!

On the reading front, I just finished listening to Murder in the Mews, a collection of four short stories featuring Hercule Poirot. I was pleasantly surprised that Hugh Fraser (he played Captain Hastings alongside David Suchet's Poirot) narrated three of the stories. Not only does he do the accents and the voices beautifully, but his love and appreciation for the material really shines. Highly recommend for any Poirot fans.

Along with the holiday decorating, I unpacked a new-to-me stack of Christmas books (from my mom). I think I'll start with the one on the bottom - Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas, followed by The Quiet Little Woman. Mother also gifted me her Louisa May Alcott collection and I'm looking forward to enjoying those books (several are re-reads, but many I've never read) next year; a Christmas collection seems like a nice place to start.

Do you have any special reading plans for the holidays?

The sweater looks like great fun to knit! I love all the perfect little details. It's going to be fun to watch this one come to life. :-) I have no special Christmas reading plans, although I usually pick up Dickens' A Christmas Carol at some point in the season. I always like to read (listen to) something EPIC during December. I'm trying to decide right now between 4321 and The Heart's Invisible Furies. . . either would fill the bill! XO

A 20 page pattern sounds daunting, but attention to detail is almost always important and your Bodie shows that! Like Kym, I look forward to seeing it grow. I didn't plan on any special Christmas reading, but I was cleaning out the bookshelves and boxes where I had stored the boys' picture books; now I have all my favorite holiday ones stacked up to read starting tomorrow.

I bow to your amazing sweater knitting skills and your cheerful embrace of a 20 page pattern! It makes my simple Rusty seem so, well, simple! Ha! All that texture looks so beautiful, Mary.

What a gorgeous sweater. Love all the different textures. Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to progress pictures...and then FO pictures!

No special reading plans for me...just reading stuff as it comes through on Overdrive. Your stack of books looks so nice - enjoy!

I am knitting Brickyard by Elizabeth and have a very similar shoulder detail, as well as a lengthy pattern, but not 20 pages! I LOVE her step by step, very clever instructions. I've had no questions in execution which is amazing. Your sweater is truly beautiful and I love the texture, too! I usually read A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas every year, as it's short and dear.

Beautiful! How I wish I had that attention to detail. Someday...just not now! I have no particular Christmas reading plans either, just to get some done! Though I am considering going to church during Advent...and it's been a long time!

Your sweater is going to be - already is - magnificent! Hopefully, I'll be able to entertain a little more reading of Christmas stories during this month. Plan to give it a try...
Cheers~

Love how the sweater is coming together. I might get on this Wednesday bandwagon in the coming year. I LOVED Captain Hastings, so yea-gotta give these a try. So far I'm still trying to empty my needles, but I've casted on a Christmas hat! Reading Farewell my Lovely- loving it, Bury your Dead- ditto and the Tea Girl from Hummingbird Lane, and am SO thankful I wasn't born in China!
