Bonjour de Paris.

...it's Friday afternoon and we are back at the apartment, enjoying a bit of time off our feet and a glass of wine before we head to the 7eme for dinner (Les Cocottes. a favorite from my 2009 visit with Katie) and the Eiffel Tower light show. It seems like the weather gods might be smiling on us: it hasn't rained since last night and it's not supposed to rain again until tomorrow!

Here's a quick look at our first 36 hours.

Who cares if it's cool and drizzly. it's Paris! that was our mantra for yesterday. We are staying in the 6eme, about two blocks south of the Seine. We walked and walked and walked some more. and got lost enough times that this morning I signed up for a data plan for my phone so we can get Google Maps (note that today we didn't get lost once and I'm thinking the $30 I'll pay AT&T is the best money I'll spend on this trip).

This is a view to the Right Bank (and the Louvre) from the Pont Neuf, just at the end of our street.

Pretty flowers at the Luxembourg Gardens.

After lunch at a sweet tea shop just around the corner from our apartment. We both had salads and wine and coffee.

...and then a short nap.  We wandered a bit more in the afternoon and then headed to the Musee D'Orsay. We've both been before and knew what we wanted to see. Impressionists and Montmartre through the clock.

Afterwards, we headed back to the 6eme for a late dinner at Le Comptoir du Relais. Fabulous meal. I said on Instagram it was mostly vegetables with wine. True, and there was also cheese for dessert. We're pretty sure the one middle left was butter (and no, we didn't clean this plate!)

Today we visited Notre Dame, the Sorbonne and Bon Marche (church, school and shopping!) We spent a good bit of time, too, at Le Grand Epicerie and had a picnic back here for lunch.

After lunch Sara took a nap...and I did a little shopping. The walk to Rue St Honore gave me my first real look at the Eiffel Tower. I'm looking forward to seeing it lit up tonight. with Sara.

It's a pleasant surprise to be along with you while you tour (and eat) through Paris! My only brush with Paris was seeing Monet's waterlilies while on a visit to Chicago (cr 1995). They were amazing!
