Joyful.

...I hadn't planned to post today. Y'all have been amazing in your support; my family has loved and appreciated every single comment. But I thought today would be ... simply too sad to share.

I've never been so happy to be proved wrong. The sunrise was clear and bright.

The service was standing room only, a fitting tribute to a young man who touched many lives and will be remembered for his gentle spirit and his smile... joyful.

Late this afternoon we gathered at my sister's. PJ would've enjoyed the party. The food was delicious. And there was wine & beer and the company was ... family.

I"m sure he would've had a ball entertaining his cousin Charlie.

and all of us.

Moments like that help up to see grace and hope in times of profound sadness. I'm glad you found the joy and I hope it stays with all of you in the days and weeks ahead.

I thought about your family many times yesterday. I used to think gathering afterwards was kind of awful, but as I get older I can see the benefits - you can cry with family and friends if you need to, share stories, decompress a bit, and share lots of hugs. And it never hurts to have a sweet child like Charlie around. Sending thoughts for peace and comfort in the coming days.

Mary, even though we have never met, I feel as if I know you and your family and I am so very sorry for your loss. I'm glad you are finding strength in those around you, particularly adorable Charlie. May you continue to find that strength and begin to heal.
