ciao chessa.

sadly, no, this isn't my work - thank you to ciaochessa for this lovely 5th avenue image!

...I was thrilled when she left a comment on my blog (a real photographer and how in the world did she find me???)...and I've been lurking around her blog since, absorbing all the nyc vicariously....

then today she posted about reaching 100 followers on google friends connect. and a giveaway.

so of course I had to jump on board.

not just for a chance of winning (ooohhh, hope so!) no, mostly to share her blog - hope you enjoy it as much as I have! (thanks, caiochessa!)

(and not to go into too much detail here, but thinking my post-retirement budget needs to support a camera and an iphone and probably not a sewing machine)

having 2+ hours (and that's in addition to the time I spent before work today flipping through the catalog searching for "inspiration") each month to spend on birthday cards...not to mention a few more for those "thinking of you" cards I hope to be sending.

and knitting - oh my! - the fall interweave issue preview... can't wait!

and the park - I have over 80 podcast episodes to catchup for the two new ones I found this weekend - that must be, what, at least a few weeks worth of walks.

yeah, and then there's cooking, and reading, and .....

205/365 - multi-tasking
Originally uploaded by mere2007

reminds me of my mom, not that I have any pictures of her doing this particular type of multi-tasking, but I'm sure she did it. because she loves to read, and gets caught up in a story she can't put down ... even if she has to get dinner on the table.

I also love multi-tasking for the pure joy of getting more than one thing done at a time. like running and listening to podcasts. or knitting and watching a movie. I read a thread on ravelry this morning about someone reading and knitting. and that one surprised me...reading and knitting both engage my brain in a similar way and that's hard. I have tried knitting and working crosswords (when sara "drives" with the pen to write in the answers) and it works well, but only if the knitting - or the crossword! - is simple.

*this month's bookclub pick. a very quick read (I started it after work and finished it just after dinner - wow!). thought-provoking themes about racism. I think it will also spark some good discussion.

not even thinking yet about the actual work, the people, my clients and what I really "do".

rich experiences for sure. and I realize I need to try - a little bit - to document it.

the (herb) garden grows.

...briefly blogged here, we have three pots of herbs on our deck this summer. and quite happy to report that everything is thriving...only wish we had rosemary (like katie), but that's my only complaint. we're enjoying basil by the bunch and the thyme and oregano in vinaigrettes and pasta salad. just need to find something more for the mint. it's true. it does completely take over its container. maybe I need to learn to love (and make!) mojitos!!

2-day walk preparations.

...karen and I spent a few hours this morning getting our 2-day walk site up...and sending out over 100 emails to family & friends asking for donations. fingers crossed this year's fundraising goes as well as last year! (I also updated the sidebar to include a link to the site, and to show our fundraising status)

farmers market.

alpharetta farmers market...sara and I have been planning a trip to the alpharetta farmers market all summer - but yesterday was the first time we made it. and it was smaller than what I remembered from previous years, but the quality (and the prices) were still good. we picked up a loveley wedge of thomasville tomme (planning for lunch today) and then filled our bag with vegetables from this stall.

three huge tomatoes, an onion, two limes, two jalapenos, two red peppers...just $12!

and then we made a quick trip to kroger for the rest of fish taco fixings.

bookclub at donna's.

I think everyone loved it. and I felt better that everyone else who re-read it for this discussion had also forgotten what the big conflict was and the details about shyla's parents. and we agreed the story was just as good the second time!

the story.

moving to nyc.summer 2009...I didn't really know until just this morning how the album would come together. honestly, I didn't decide until just a few days ago there would even be an album. but after I picked up the 62 prints from the move, I knew it was just too big for the regular photo album (especially after the 58 prints from the apartment hunting trip). I was thinking - as usual - photos + a few words (and hopefully a bit of pretty paper). so yesterday morning I visited aaron brothers since they have the best selection of kolo albums. and (lucky me?!) this location is going out of business and everything is 50% off. and of course this is bad when you don't have a plan, but I picked out six (maybe more!?) albums that seemed like they'd work. and sara helped me decide on the camel catalina album. same format I used for paris. plenty of room for the photos. and the coloring is perfect for my favorite basic grey periphery papers. I roughed out the format - three sections, one for apartment hunting, one for the transition/packing and one for the move. and it must be meant to be because that left one slot for closing thoughts.

this morning I started on the journaling for those four pages. searched my ali edwards collection of digital and found the perfect one. the story. used photoshop to add a subtitle (part one, etc) and the journaling to each one. then the title piece.

thank goodness for flickr to help me remember the captions for the photos. that part went fast. and I'm very pleased with the final results.

here's the first page.

and the last.

and images of the journaling.

happy weekend!

took a nice walk in the park with sara after work. chatting about all kinds of good stuff. like ice cream - her dad bought her an ice cream maker and she is full of ideas for yummy flavors (sour cream cherry? peach? I'd be fine with vanilla!). summer reading - both of us are "behind" but I've got plans to catch up this weekend. work - three big meetings in the next two weeks - likely a couple of day trips (so good opportunities to keep my travel skills honed!) - and hopefully - a lot more relaxing and just enjoying the slower pace. and the sunshine. and home.

(well, at least for now!) we spent the morning cleaning up and hanging pictures - got everything ready for the last piece - the coffee table. it arrived about 2:30 and katie had it together and ready for the final photos by 2:45. here's a quick run through (click the photos to see the descriptions):

getting closer. getting done. yesterday the couch, tv console table and a bookcase arrived. the only other piece of furniture is a coffee table and that's supposed to come today. and since we don't know when it will come, I expect we'll be hanging around the apartment waiting for it, and maybe hanging pictures. because that really is about all we have left to do.

here's the living room.

another sign things are turning more normal. we broke in the blender last night with margaritas - to go with nachos for dinner.
